We had a very successful and fun time at our Pints for Polio event that we hosted at DK Maria's along with the South Austin and Westlake club. What a great turnout!

One Day. One Focus:  Ending Polio

World Polio Day is a time for Rotary members, public health advocates, and all who want a world free from polio to come together, recognize our progress in the fight to end polio, and talk about the actions we need to take in order to end polio for good. All donations are matched 2:1 by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, tripling your impact!

Please join us on Thursday, October 24 (World Polio Day) for Pints for Polio at DK Maria’s at 5:00pm. This is a joint project with our club, Rotary Club of South Austin and Rotary Club of Austin Westlake. DK Maria’s will donate $1 to PolioPlus for every drink ordered. Grab a friend and come join us!

The Rotary Clubs of Austin Southwest, South Austin and Austin, as well as district staff members surprised those at Wayside Eden Park Academy by showing up in mass to celebrate the first knighting ceremony for Early Act First Knight. Every six weeks the teachers teach the students a character trait and at the end of that time the teacher selects one student that represented that trait.

The students are awarded medallions, but the fifth graders are knighted (a real sword) by Lady Amber.

This program is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Austin Southwest and the South Austin Rotary club.
Beth Long and Holly DeLeon were recently interviewed on The Austin Common Radio Hour for KOOP 91.7. The topic was all about recycling so of course Beth and Holly were our New Home for Styrofoam experts. If you missed it, use THIS LINK to listen. Their interview is about 30 minutes in the hour, but the first half was very interesting as well. Great job, Beth and Holly!
