The gazebo at the Hampton branch library was a gift of Ross Baldwin fifteen years ago and occasionally needs a bit of attention. A club community service project this year is to give the gazebo a hearty dose of TLC. Actually, a series of three doses are envisioned:
The first involves repairs to the gazebo. Stan Barnes inspected the gazebo and found that mechanically it is in good shape except for a few missing trim pieces and a number of fasteners that are loose. Stan has fabricated replacement wooden trim and will lead the effort Saturday (Nov. 8, noon) to restore the gazebo's mechanical health.
The next stage is to clean and re-stain the gazebo. (We last re-stained the gazebo as part of a 2008-2009 DAP grant that includes other improvements around the gazebo.) This part of the project will benefit from many Rotarian helping hands, but the details are not yet settled, so stay tuned.
Finally, we'll spiff up the landscaping around the gazebo by filling in the gaps with the types of plants that seem to do well there plus making the bed easier to maintain in drought conditions. This will be a good, hands on, dirt under the fingernails Rotarian project.
